🔨 The Gutter Report: Fort Myers Gas Station Killing — Suspect Charged in Fatal Hammer Attack
A 51-year-old gas station clerk was killed in a hammer attack outside her workplace in Fort Myers, Florida, in what investigators say followed a dispute the day before
🚨 The Incident
Fort Myers, Florida — Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on April 2, 2026, police responded to a Chevron gas station at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Highland Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found Nilufar Yasmin, a 51-year-old employee at the station, suffering from severe head injuries. Yasmin, a mother of two, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the attack occurred just outside the business and was captured on surveillance video.
The footage shows a man outside the gas station striking a vehicle with a hammer. Investigators said the vehicle belonged to Yasmin.
After noticing the damage, Yasmin stepped outside. Within moments, the man approached her and struck her in the head.
She collapsed near the entrance of the business. Seconds later, a passerby riding a bicycle arrived and approached the scene.
Emergency responders were called, but Yasmin could not be revived.
👤 The Suspect
🚔 Rolbert Joachin, 40, is escorted by officers following his arrest in connection with the Fort Myers killing
Police identified the suspect as Rolbert Joachin, 40.
He was taken into custody later that day following a search.
Joachin has been charged with homicide and criminal mischief related to the damage of the vehicle. He is being held without bond.
🧾 Prior Interaction
Investigators believe the encounter may have been connected to an interaction the day before.
According to reporting, the suspect had attempted to use an ATM inside the store and became involved in a dispute with Yasmin.
Authorities say he returned the following morning, when the attack occurred.
🇺🇸 Federal Status
Federal authorities later confirmed that Joachin is a Haitian national who entered the United States in 2022.
Officials said he had been subject to a final order of removal and had remained in the country under Temporary Protected Status, which had expired.
An immigration detainer has been issued in connection with the case.
