A 49-year-old man was shot and killed moments after a funeral service ended, sending mourners running for cover in broad daylight
🕒 Shot in Broad Daylight — Right After the Service
🚔 NYPD units flood the intersection outside the church moments after the shooting
Jamaica, Queens, New York — On Friday, April 10, 2026, at around 2:00 PM, a funeral in Jamaica, Queens turned into a crime scene.
The shooting happened outside The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York, located at Merrick Boulevard and Sayres Avenue, where mourners were exiting the church when gunfire erupted, according to CBS News.
A hearse and limo were already positioned outside — waiting to carry the deceased.
Instead, another life was taken.
🎯 Police: This Was Targeted — No Arrests

Last seen heading northbound on 170th Street
👁️ Witnesses: “Five or Six Shots”
🚑 Emergency responders rush in as mourners and bystanders gather near the scene
Witnesses described hearing:
“Five or six shots in a row”
A limo driver transporting mourners said he:
Heard rapid gunfire
Looked over and saw Carter on the ground moving after being hit
Mourners:
Ran for cover
Didn’t know where the shots were coming from
Had just stepped out of a service meant to bury someone else
⚠️ The Setup — Not Random Timing
Let’s be clear about what this was:
A funeral location
A known exit moment
A crowd gathered in one place
That’s not coincidence.
That’s timing.
Once police say something is targeted, the meaning changes.
👉🏾 This wasn’t random — it was deliberate positioning
🧠 From Grief to Gunfire
Funerals are supposed to be the end of violence.
But here, it became the next scene.
One man buried.
Another man killed.
Same place. Same moment.
And now the reality is this:
If someone can line you up at a funeral —
then nowhere is off limits.
🕊️ Final Word
Our condolences go out to Richard Carter’s family, friends, and loved ones.
No family should have to bury one person and lose another in the same moment.
Not for clicks — for clarity.
