🏀 The Gutter Report: Masiah Gilyard — From Staten Island to Temple to the League

Brooklyn grit. Staten Island discipline. Philly ambition.

🦉 Locked in at Temple — the next chapter begins November 5th.

🌇 From Brooklyn and Staten Island Roots

Masiah Gilyard’s story runs through two boroughs — Brooklyn and Staten Island, where he developed both his toughness and humility.

A standout product of McKee/Staten Island Tech High School, Gilyard averaged 23.2 points and 14.5 rebounds his senior season, even dropping 39 points in the PSAL A Division quarterfinals.

At McKee, Coach Redd was instrumental in shaping Gilyard’s mentality — emphasizing discipline, patience, and leadership. Those principles built the foundation of his climb through the college ranks.

🚀 The Road Through JUCO and Manhattan

After graduating, Gilyard took the grind route — heading south to Blinn College in Texas. There, he made a name for himself as a 6’5” guard who played like a forward, averaging 13.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 50.7 % from the floor and 51.3 % from three.

His energy and athleticism caught attention quickly — leading him to Manhattan College, where he put up 11.2 points and 7.3 boards per game. Even more impressive: he led all guards nationally in offensive rebounds.

💚 Manhattan made — numbers that turned heads.

🦉 Temple Owls — The New Era

In April 2025, Gilyard committed to the Temple Owls, joining a roster hungry for leadership, toughness, and edge.

Head Coach Adam Fisher praised him:

“Masiah plays with toughness and energy. He impacts the game in so many ways — scoring, rebounding, defending.”

Now wearing the Cherry & White, Gilyard is set to debut November 5th, ready to bring that same Staten Island grit to Philadelphia’s basketball stage.

📜 Signed, sealed, and destined for greatness.

🎯 Locked In on the League

Make no mistake — Masiah Gilyard’s goal is the NBA. Those who know him say his focus borders on obsession. He studies film, trains through pain, and carries the weight of two boroughs that don’t get enough credit for producing hoopers at his level.

His message is simple: “I’m going to the league — and I’m taking my city with me.”

What separates him isn’t just his stats — it’s his hunger. From long days at McKee under Coach Redd to late-night sessions in Brooklyn gyms, Gilyard’s journey is one of discipline and destiny.

🏀 What to Watch November 5th

Temple’s season opener will be the first official look at Gilyard in Owls colors. Expect to see:

  • Relentless rebounding from the guard spot

  • Mid-range poise and efficient shooting

  • Physical defense that sets the tone

  • Leadership energy that elevates the locker room

And don’t be surprised when NBA scouts start circling by mid-season.

Not for clicks — for clarity.

Good morning and Godspeed.
