📂 Woopie Balla’s Prior Gun Conviction

One aspect of the case drawing particular attention involves Williams’ prior criminal history.

Williams was previously convicted in Richmond County in 2019 of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree following a jury trial after prosecutors alleged he discarded a loaded handgun while being pursued by police.

Williams later appealed that conviction, challenging the legality of the police pursuit, the recovery of the firearm, and statements made after his arrest.

In December 2023, New York’s Appellate Division upheld the conviction, finding that the trial court properly denied suppression motions and that the arresting officer’s testimony was credible. The conviction remained intact.

The prior conviction has resurfaced in public discussion following Williams’ latest arrest because the current case also involves allegations that a firearm was discarded during a police operation.

❓ The Unanswered Question

While authorities have publicly alleged that a loaded firearm was thrown from the apartment during the June 11 operation, several important questions remain unanswered.

Publicly available records reviewed by LFTG Radio do not currently identify:

• Which defendant allegedly possessed the firearm.

• Which defendant allegedly threw the firearm from the apartment window.

• Whether prosecutors are alleging actual possession or constructive possession.

• Whether any statements were allegedly made following the arrests.

• Whether additional evidence was recovered during the operation.

Those details will likely emerge as the criminal proceedings continue through Richmond County Supreme Court.

📅 What’s Next

The defendants are expected back in Richmond County Supreme Court on July 1, 2026.

As additional court filings become available, prosecutors will be required to explain how they intend to prove possession of the firearm and what evidence they believe connects each defendant to the weapon allegedly recovered during the June 11 operation.

For now, all defendants remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

What is known is that a June 11 police operation led to four arrests, three separate indictments, and allegations that a loaded firearm was thrown from an apartment window.

What remains unknown is who prosecutors believe possessed the weapon and who allegedly discarded it.

As that question works its way through the courts, this case is likely to remain one of the most closely watched criminal matters currently unfolding on Staten Island.

Not for clicks — for clarity.
